Discovery
HumanEdge+ Discovery brings together leadership, management, staff and supporting evidence to establish how AI is actually being used, where understanding differs, what needs stronger controls and what management should do next.
DiscoveryEvidence-led management viewWhy Discovery
AI often appears through everyday work before it becomes a formal programme. Staff may use standalone tools, personal accounts or AI features already embedded in business systems, leaving management without a reliable view of where AI is being used, what information enters those systems or who remains responsible.
Discovery establishes that baseline before decisions are made about wider adoption or additional governance.
Who Discovery Is For
Discovery is particularly relevant where AI is already appearing across teams, business systems or decision-making, but management does not yet have a reliable evidence-led view of how that use is being governed.
The evidence base
Business direction, accountability, planned use and management expectations.
How AI is actually being used within functions, workflows and decisions.
Anonymous insight into everyday AI use, understanding, behaviours and practical uncertainty.
Relevant policies, records, tool information, account arrangements and supporting organisational evidence.
Evidence-led organisational viewClearer management visibilityWhat Discovery examines
Where AI is being used today, including standalone AI and AI embedded inside existing business systems.
What information enters AI systems and whether use happens through managed organisational accounts, personal accounts or both.
Who remains responsible for AI-supported work and where human judgement or review is required.
Whether existing rules, approvals, records and governance arrangements appear to be operating in practice.
Where the organisation intends to use AI and whether the business need, expected value and consequences are sufficiently understood.
How new AI features, supplier changes and evolving use could change the organisation's governance needs.
Management decisions
The objective is not to produce a long list of AI risks or opportunities. It is to help management understand what matters, what needs attention and what should happen next.
The organisation has enough evidence and control to continue at the current level.
The use may continue where specific boundaries, ownership or oversight are put in place.
The opportunity may be valid, but prerequisites need to be addressed first.
Management should not increase reliance until important information, controls or assurance are available.
These are examples of legitimate management outcomes. Discovery supports management judgement; it does not generate automatic verdicts.
Discovery outputs
A clear picture of current AI use, differing perspectives, material gaps and relevant evidence.
The areas that require management attention, stronger controls or further evidence.
Clear decision and ownership requirements where management action is needed.
Where the evidence supports a current or planned AI use case, a non-technical visual roadmap showing priorities, prerequisites, ownership and management decision points.
A prioritised basis for management action after Discovery.
Visual AI Roadmap
The roadmap provides a clear, non-technical view of what needs to happen next, including actions, prerequisites, ownership and management decision points. HumanEdge+ may identify recommended next steps, controls, specialist support or dependencies, but implementation remains with the organisation or its chosen providers. Where no immediate AI use case is supported, Discovery identifies the priorities and conditions that should be addressed first.
What matters first.
What must be in place.
Who takes responsibility.
What management needs to decide.
The findings give management a basis for deciding what should happen next.
Depending on the evidence, that may include internal action, specialist advice, changes to existing controls, a HumanEdge+ Governance Framework or no further HumanEdge+ engagement.
If governance needs to stay current as AI use changes, explore Ongoing Governance.
Start with visibility
If AI is already being used across your organisation, Discovery gives management the evidence and clarity needed to understand what requires attention and what should happen next.
